Old time, country, hillbilly - It's not often a modern twist is put on old time tunes with success, CRTC have achieved this with style and panache in their eponymously titled debut album (Ceri Ridge Trading Co). Based in a beautiful rural area of Mid Wales from which they take their name the three piece use traditional acoustic instruments to create a simple yet expressive soundscape that appeals on many levels. One could easily imagine them playing in the early hours around a log fire while onlookers are sucked in by the intoxicating fumes created within the music. It's easy to hear influences but difficult to pinpoint a genre. Is it Appalachian mountain music, folk, hillbilly? No this is Ceri Ridge Trading Company.
